Race Report

It was a great turnout for the guides races on a baking hot day (apart from the splash of rain during the senior race). Once again, Rob Jebb from Bingley Harriers turned out as the winner in 14:32 having led strongly from the start, Second man was Shaun Godsman of Calder Valley in 15:00, with Ted Mason of Wharfedale Harriers in third, ten seconds later after a fantastic descent. First lady was Lauren Munro Bennett of Helm Hill in 19:35 with Louise Mercer of Gala Harriers in second in 19:53, just 12 seconds ahead of Wharfedaler, Kirsty Hall in third.

In the under 17's, Chris Richards from Helm Hill was dominant taking first place by almost a minute from Jacob Boyle from Hyndburn, with Harry Muir from Wharfedale Harriers just 6 seconds behind. First Girl was Rosie Dale of Lancs and Morecambe, 24 seconds ahead of Jenni Willison from Derby AC. Third girl was Katherine LAwson of Helm Hill18 seconds later.

Run of the day has to go to Joshua Boyle of Hyndburn, who won the under 14's race in 9:55 breaking the junior record (which has stood since 1975) by 4 seconds in the process. Second boy was James Lund from Keighley and Craven whose time of 10:34 would have been sufficient to to win the race on any other day. Third place went to Luke Bowen of Ambleside. First Girl was Victoria Merrick from Bingley Harriers in 12:26, with Shona Hastings from Wharfedale Harriers in second in 12:59. Imogen Burrow from Helm Hill was third.

If one record was not enough, Fraser Sproul from Kendal just missed out on the 1992 under 12 record by 2 seconds, finishing in 7:15. Ciaren Crabtree from Wharfedale Harriers was comfortably in second, with Eric Beaumont from Keighley and Craven 9 seconds behind in third. First girl, Mia Walsh from Helm Hill had an outstanding run to finish in 5th place overall in a field of 100 runners in 8:15. Second girl was Amy Proctor of Harrogate Harriers in 8:44 just 2 seconds ahead of third girl Chloe Rylance from Ambleside in third.
