Race Report

Our version of the Burnsall Fell Race starts off in the field which climbs gradually to the fell wall. From here the course zig zags up to the trig point, after which the descent is quite steep with plenty of obstacles to deal with before rolling down the final field towards the finish. It's a classic up and down fell race.

In the senior race v40 Mark Horrocks showed his class putting over half a minute between him and another vet Chris Smale who again had a comfortable gap over 3rd placed and first under 23 Sam Watson. Martin Speight was one second behind, with Colin Urmston in 5th. First v50 was Jack Holt ho put in another brilliant performance.

In the Ladies' race, Helen Glover dominated the event with a storming run with 2nd and 3rd placings going to Dawn Richards and Lynn Whittaker. There were 46 runners overall in the senior race.

The under 17 boys saw Alex Till back to winning form in a strongly competitive race. Tom Doyle had a great result to finish in 2nd with Tom Sessford in 3rd place. The girls race saw Emma Flanagan put over a minute between her and 2nd placed Amy Fretwell, with Emma Thompson closely following.

In the under 14's, Sam Till grabbed himself another fine win with Marc Scott and Sam Wescott 2nd and 3rd boys. The runner of the day must have been Melanie Hyder who ran 3rd place overall and was well clear of the other girls. 2nd and 3rd placings went to Emma Spencer and Rebecca Swindells.

The winner of the under 12's has been putting together quite a few good wins recently so it was no surprise to see James Hall come over the line in first place, closely followed by Ben Johnstone and Phil Done who both had a good result on the day. In the girls race, Lorna Jo Nunwick crossed the line, but just 3 seconds separated 2nd and 3rd with Nicole Narey holding off Charlotte Cox.

The under 9's saw Oliver Spencer show his class again - he has led most of the seasons races from start to finish. Second place was Thomas Kerr and 3rd place goes to another exciting prospect; first girl Ellamae Gibson . Third boy Sam Corbett was one second behind with Emily Cox and Amy Westcott 2nd and 3rd girls.

Thanks to everyone who supported this event, a big thank you to the landowners for letting us stage the races in this glorious setting and once again a big thank you to all who helped on the day. You were the stars!
