Malham Charity Relays Results

Race Report
Fun is the emphasis of the BOFRA Malham Charity Relays, towards the end of the Summer Fellrunning season. Teams are formed on the day from the pool of entries, and purposely comprise runners of all ages and abilities. Thus, all teams have a theoretical equal chance of winning. This year saw record numbers of entrants as 7 teams lined up for the challenge.Starting on the bridge over Malham Beck, near the Lister Arms Pub, runners sprint up a section of Finkle St before leaving tarmac for the much preferable fell terrain. Competitors now clamber up to the summit of Cawden and back the way they came. The only real marshall point is the summit, so runners find their best route to the top and back.
Thankfully, the day was fine with none of the recent fog to block the view of runners or spectators alike. Arriving back at the bridge, the baton is handed over and so the relay continues.
This year’s selectors chose well as no single team dominated the event. In the end the team comprising Geoff Thompson, Graham Bird, Eiblis Price and Logan Hargreaves-Madhas won, collecting their chocolate themed prizes.
Monies raised from the event will be donated to the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association.
